Emergence
Emergence is a single-player educational video game for undergraduate students that can be played on any device with a web browser. Players take on the role of a scientist inside a high-tech facility, shrunken to operate within a cell in a patient. Players encounter metabolic needs and crises and seek to restore balance to the cellular environment.
Biochemistry is required of many pre-professional students—not just biochemistry majors—to qualify them for professional programs in medicine, veterinary medicine, dietetics, and dentistry. We the public need them to learn biochemistry well to support their ability to diagnose and treat us and our animals safely and successfully. Biochemistry learning for non-majors is hindered by low morale, lack of interactivity in traditional teaching methods, complex and overwhelming material, and limited background in the subject. Interactive learning offers solutions to these challenges. Imagine if universities could purchase affordable licenses for this cutting-edge learning technology. Imagine if students could embark on engaging and visually stimulating adventures in learning biochemistry. Wouldn’t that be both appealing and captivating?
