There’s no better place to make your first game.

Most internships put you in a corner with a ticket queue. Here, you work on real games — titles with real funding, real players, and real research behind them. At Adroit, interns don’t support the work. They do the work.

Why Intern at Adroit

We’re not handing you busywork. We’re inviting you into the mission.

We’re a professional game studio inside one of the country’s leading research universities, which means the work here sits at an intersection you won’t find many other places: production-quality games built on a foundation of learning science. Whatever you’re here to build — skills, a portfolio, your next chapter — this is the place to do it.

You’ll work alongside professional artists, designers, developers, and producers who are genuinely invested in helping you grow. You’ll have access to tools, technology, and projects that are live, funded, and going somewhere. And you’ll be part of an ecosystem — a network of game developers, educators, researchers, and community partners who are building something bigger than any one project.

What You’ll Work On

Adroit interns work across all four crew areas: art, design, development, and production. We’ve had social media people. We’ve had researchers. If you know your lane, we have real work waiting for you there.

The program is intentionally self-directed.

You come with a goal — a skill to develop, a role to explore, maybe a game of your own you want to build — and we work with you to make it happen. You don’t have to work on one of our projects to belong here. One of our past interns did exactly that: came in with an idea for a math game, built it with our support, and left having pitched it to her employer.

That’s the point.

Who It’s For

Honestly? People who want to make games.

We’re a partner in education with Columbia Public Schools, so we have a natural connection there. The Columbia Area Career Center is one of the pathways that relationship opens up — if you’re a student coming through CPS, that’s a natural on-ramp.

But it’s not the only one. We’ve brought in high school students, undergrads, grad students, and career-changers — from across the state and beyond, in person and remote. The Columbia Public Schools partnership signals our commitment to the community. It doesn’t define our limits.

If you’re interested in games and you want to learn — whatever your background — curiosity and commitment are the only requirements.
